Manipulatives

Almost all of my lessons begin with an inquiry into the unknown. Often, this takes the form of a manipulative of some sort. After students spend time sorting, organizing, discussing, or analyzing the stimulus, we debrief. I ask questions, draw out misconceptions, help students make new connections, and model note taking.

Card Sorts

Card Sorts are a staple in my classroom. They are great for getting students to think through new processes, see relationships between items, and look for differences to see core similarities.

Manipulatives

Some people always have emergency duct tape. I have a never-ending supply of buttons and felt.
